Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma
92 Points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Dec 08
“(80% zinfandel, 16% petite sirah and 4% carignane) Deep ruby-red. Vivid red and dark berry aromas are complemented by dusty floral and mineral notes, with a suave rose quality gaining power with air. Deep cassis and bitter cherry flavors are energized by tangy minerality, picking up exotic floral pastille and candied licorice nuances on the back end. Smooth and sweet, with fine-grained tannins and a long, sappy finish. This is balanced to reward at least another five to seven years of patience. 92 points”

2007 Pinot Noir, Fog Eater-Drew Anderson Valley $36.95

“($42) Good full red. Aromas of cherry skin, dried flowers and herbs. Juicy and penetrating, with a light touch to its tangy red fruit, spice and mineral flavors. A graceful pinot with lovely subtle sweetness and excellent spicy length. And the alcohol here is a moderate 13.7%. 92 points .”

France : Rhone : Cotes du Rhone   Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvédre, Syrah
87 Points Robert Parker, October 2008
“Given the brilliance of this estate’s Chateauneuf du Papes, it is not surprising that they have also turned out a delicious, attractive, elegant, deep, berry fruit-filled 2007 Cotes du Rhone. With a velvety texture as well as wonderful length for a wine of this pedigree, it can be enjoyed over the next 1-2 years.”

2008 Tempranillo, Lagar  Alto - Bodegas Noblejas  $8.95
La Mancha, Spain
Tanzer rated the 2007 88 points and wrote “An easygoing wine with good finishing clarity and sweetness. This is a steal.” As the 2008 is a better vintage the rating should be higher for this medium-bodied Tempranillo with moderate tannins and a smooth texture. Enjoy the blackberry, cherry and dark plum notes, with touches of earth and smoke. The Spanish are hard to best when it comes to their quality/price ratio.

2004 Dancing Coyote Tango $6.95

2006 Viognier, Lodi-Renwood $9.95
90% Viognier, 6% Sémillon, 3%Pinot Grigio, 1%Muscat Blanc
This Viognier displays aromas of grapefruit, mineral scents and jasmine. On the palate the wine is crisp, with a medium texture and flavors of melon, lemon zest, and apricots. A steely finish makes this wine very food friendly and the lingering tartness helps balance the wine. While primarily from the Lodi Appellation and the Mohr-Fry Ranch, a small amount of Sierra Foothill grapes were included in the final blend.

2007 Zinfandel, Old Vine Zen of Zin -Ravenswood  $9.95
Ravenswood at its quirky best. A bold blend of old vine Zinfandel from so great sources throughout California, expertly married by Joel Peterson to make this vibrant, fruity, in your face Zinfandel. 2007 Pinot Noir, Reserva Especial - Tabali $16.95
Limari Valley, Coquimbo, Chile 89 Points Parker # 182 Apr 2009
“The red wines begin with the 2007 Pinot Noir Reserva Especial. It shows off a lovely cherry, raspberry, and rose petal perfume. Elegant on the palate, it has a velvety texture, sweet fruit, and plenty of finesse Tabali is producing high quality wines from the newly developing cool-climate region of Limari.”

Here is what the Brits are saying: The Reserva pinot Noir is wondefully perfumed with ripe red fruits. The velvety palate is round and structured. Ripe strawberry fruit and mingles with soft vanilla tones from the oak and the structure owes a great deal to the gentle tannins and softy acidity.Fantastic value for money.

2005 Cabernet,  Alexander Valley-Mantra $ 19.95
Sonoma 89 Points Parker # 174 Dec 2007 Drink: 2007 - 2017
“This is a strong effort from an area that frequently does not receive the credit it deserves for making good Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley reveals earth, underbrush, black currant, sweet cherry, and loamy soil characteristics. It is medium to full-bodied with supple tannin, and ideal for drinking over the next decade.”

2006 Albarino - Dancing Coyote $6.95
Clarksburg    (93.3% Albariño, 3.9% Orange Muscat, 2.8% Gewurztraminer)
You’ve  enjoyed many Spanish Albariños and now its time to raise a glass of a California Albariño. This is an amazing wine for the price. Though it is full-bodied, it is also very crisp, with fresh acidity and a fruity aroma. Like a bowl of lemons and passionflower. Citrusy on the nose with mineral notes. Brings a nice mixture of peach and pear spiked with minerals and assertive acidity. Nice finish, great value.

2006 Verdelho - Dancing Coyote $6.95
Clarksburg  (93.5% Verdelho, 6.5% Chardonnay.)
You wont find many California Verdelhos . This native of Portugal starts off with hints of toasted spice leading to displays of honeysuckle, pineapple and tangy citrus flavors that end with a rich creaminess on the finish. Fun wine at a very friendly price.

2006 Dancing Coyote Cha Cha $6.95
Clarksburg  (75.3% Chardonnay, 18.3% Chenin Blanc, 6.4% Orange Muscat.)
They would be legally entitled to label this as a varietal Chardonnay but it is a good thing they did not as this wine bears very little resemblance to your typical California Chard. A fruit basket of flavors, this white table wine blend showcases tropical fruit with a hint of buttered toast. An exotic blend of multiple white grape varieties, this wine keeps you guessing with its vanilla spice and stone-fruit notes. A rich, medium bodied white wine that is easy drinking with a smooth, balanced finish.

2007 Stephen Test - Chardonnay, Sangiacomo $32.95
Carneros, Napa unfiltered
Big over the top  Napa Chardonnay from  blocks in the Sangiacomo family's Vella Ranch and Green Acres-Hill vineyards, both planted to old Wente selection budwood. The vineyard blocks are separated by a small creek and both have very well-drained rocky soils. Both lots were barrel-fermented with native yeasts and completed malolactic fermentation on stirred lees."

2007 Cambiata Albariño $19.95
Monterey County - The Cambiata Albarino is a luscious white wine made from the grape that is more commonly associated with the Rias Baixas region of Spain rather than California. Fragrant with scents of tangerine, peach and clove. The mouth shows flavor intensity of citrus, stone fruit and exotic tropical fruits both crisp and creamy. Nice to see a few in California tempting us with nice Albariños.

2005 Altamura Sangiovese $33.95
91 Points  Parker 180 Dec 2008  Drink: 2008 - 2012
There are 1,200 cases of the dark ruby-colored 2005 Sangiovese. Aged in neutral old wood, it tastes like a strawberry jam cocktail with lots of new saddle leather, spice, and underbrush notes. Medium-bodied and richly fruity with loads of character, it is a remarkable effort given how difficult it has been for this grape to achieve this level of quality in California. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Altamura continues to impress me, not only for their Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, but also for one of the finest California Sangioveses money can buy.

2004 Mankas Suisun Valley Cabernet $9.95
Soft and elegant fruit aromas of raspberry, blueberry, and brambleberry harmonize with soft vanilla and eucalyptus tones. Notes of black pepper and cassis lie hidden in the depth of the wine. Silky textures along with bold cherry and plums flavors lead to the crescendo of a  spicy finish.

2007 The Prisoner - Orin Swift $32.95
92 Points  Wine Spectator Jun 15, 2009
“Offers both style and structure, with lively aromas of black raspberry, cracked pepper and mocha that lead to plush, layered flavors of wild berry, fresh sage and licorice. Ripe tannins sneak in on the finish. Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Charbono and Grenache. Drink now through 2014. –TF”

The 2007 Prisoner blend is 50% Zinfandel, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 9% Petite Sirah and a dash of Charbono and Grenache.

2006 Parducci Sauvignon Blanc   $5.95
Mendocino & Lake County

2008 Cupcake Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc $8.95
Marlborough valley. New Zealand
This Sauvignon Blanc holds true to the lemony goodness found in wines from the Malborough region of New Zealand. The flavors are integrated, delighting the senses with layer upon layer of Meyer lemons, Key limes, a hint of grass and a finish that is crisp, clean and zesty. This is not over the top like a lot of the wines coming from New Zealand these days.

2007 Villa Antinori "Tomaresca" Neprica  $9.95
Puglia , Italy  90 Points Wine Enthusiast
“You cannot get better value than this. Ripe berry notes, cassis, molasses and cola serve as a preface for the thick texture and smooth density that this wine delivers to the palate. The wine is thick and succulent with smooth tannins and great length: excellent quality for this very low price.” This wine is a blend of Negroamaro (40%), Primitivo (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%).

2006 Carlos Basso "Dos Fincas" $9.95
(Cabernet 55%% +Merlot 45%) Argentina
Sensational wine for the money. The Cab(55%) and Merlot(45%) work together seamlessly, as the nose exudes raspberry and sweet leather. Tastes warm and toasty, with ripe fruit softened by chocolate and pillowy tannins. Argentine red at its affordable best.

2006 Domaine du Plaugier " Les Ramières"  $9.95
Merlot VdP du Vaucluse, France
This Merlot from the Southern Rhone is a Medium/Full bodied red with notes of Strawberry and Cherries that is ready for your BarBQue doings. As the French say:

2006 Cabernet-Merlot, Dos Fincas - Carlos Basso $9.95

2005 Pinot Noir - Dubakella $29.95
Hayfork, Trinity County
A cherry bombast on the nose and an appealing loamy earthiness to the ornate black cherry and black raspberry flavors. Lithe and clean with a refined mouthfeel and a refreshing finish. We were blown away by the lively aromas and the succulent fruit flavors on the palate.

Andy Carini makes this exiting Pinot Noir  from  a small vineyard  in Hayfork ( pop 2,500),  Trinity County, halfway between Redding and Eureka . The wine is named for Mt. Dubakella, the tallest mountain you can see from Andy’s winery in Hayfork. Made in "Old World" noninterventional style in small 250 GL open top fermenters and punched down by hand, this Pinot is a beautiful expression of the little known terrior of Trinity County

2004 Monastrell-Portico del Castillo $5.95
Yecla, Spain
A Full Bodied Spanish Red from Eric Solomon. This Monastrell (Mourvedre) hails from Yecla, a small and rather obscure wine region in Southeastern Spain, near Jumilla. Very dark reddish-purple in color. The aromas are all earthy Mourvedre: Ripe black fruit accented by characteristic varietal accents of leather, "tree bark" and subtle "barnyard."

2007 Sauvignon Blanc - Walnut Crest $4.95
Valle Central, Chile
Very pale yellow. Fragrant, with citrus and herbaceous aromas. Crisp, fresh, with pear and lemon flavors. Walnut Crest Sauvignon Blanc is a fragrant and fruit-forward white wine. An outstanding and delicious varietal, rivaling many higher-priced California Sauvignon Blancs.

2005 Rosé – Renwood $4.95
From the Sierra Foothills this Rosé was produced from  Mourvèdre (69%) Zinfandel (28%), and Syrah (3%). This Rosé was made using both the traditional French Saignée process where juice is drawn off or “bled” off the skins during settling and early harvested grapes both cold fermented in stainless steel. The resulting wine is crisp, dry and complex, and displays wonderful fruit characters.

2007 Tempranillo, Reinares - Eguren  $7.95
Tierra de Castilla, Noblejas,Toledo, Spain 87 Points Tanzer , Jul/Aug 08
“Bright red. Pungent cherry and dark berry aromas offer clean, straightforward appeal. Plump and juicy, showing a sweet black raspberry flavor, no tannins and gentle lift. A tad jammy but delivers impressive flavor punch, sweetness and clarity for the money.”

In the 10 months since the review the wine has become more serious loosing the jammy notes. Great BBQ Tempranilo.

2007 Rose, Les Galets - Ch Mourgues du Gres $8.95
Languedoc Roussillon Costieres de Nimes, France
 88 Points Tanzer, Jun 08
“Light, bright pink. Racy citrus and redcurrant aromas gain depth with air, picking up redcurrant and strawberry character. Clean and sharply focused, offering vivacious ruby-red grapefruit and pomegranate flavors and slow-mounting sweetness. Brisk and dry on the finish, with the tangy citrus qualities echoing.”

2008 Domaine Des Cassagnoles $8.95
Colombard, Ugni Blanc , Gros Manseng and Sauvignon
 Cotes De Gascogne, France
White gold color with some spices and a hint of Sauvgnon on the nose. Light with bright melon fruit. Snappy and refreshing on the finish. Super summer cooler. A  Gilles Baumann’s Domaine Cassagnoles was not among the many Gascogne whites competing when that category was hot back in the mid-to-late 1980s, but over the past decade, his have proven to be some of the most consistently ripe and satisfying – as well as least expensive – of their genre.
